Hello!
I'm Maura Oates, a recent graduate from Loyola Marymount University. At LMU, I earned a degree in Studio Art with a minor in Art History. During my four years in Los Angeles, I took a wide range of art classes such as drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and many more at several levels. I also really enjoyed the psychology classes that I was taking which is why I decided to pursue a career in Art Therapy.
I am currently enrolled at Phillips Graduate Institute in California to earn my Master's Degree in Marital and Family Therapy with a specialization in Art Therapy. I cannot wait to use art to change the lives of young people and help them to discover its healing powers.
I grew up in New Jersey where I originally discovered my love for art. It was my favorite hobby while I was in elementary school, but in high school I really honed my talent and began to get serious about my work. I was involved in the AP Studio Arts class and create an oeuvre of pieces revolving around my concentration - shoes.
My art has been shown in galleries, magazines, and online exhibitions.
I have been featured on the cover of ArtVoices Magazine with a four page spread feature written about my work with combining art and mental heath.
In April of 2015, I was involved in a show called "Reflect," my senior thesis show, which was shown in the Thomas P. Kelly Gallery in Los Angeles.
Later, in May of 2015, my painting "Composition" was selected to be shown in the Laband Gallery in Los Angeles in a show called "Young Contemporaries."
My painting "Crazy Eights" is shown in the twenty-ninth edition of "Studio Visit Magazine."
My senior thesis installation, "Life of the Party" will be shown in the thirty-first edition of "Studio Visit Magazine"
My photographs "Vanscape" and "The Calm" are shown in "The Landscape Show," a juried art show on artisTTable's website.
I sell personalized, monogram pieces in my etsy shop, Maura's Monograms. Feel free to visit the site and possibly get in contact with me about making something personalized just for you!
